PYDERIN distinguished itself through formulation architecture, a PDRN specification declared to the part per million and equated by the brand to two percent of the finished cream, a surrounding system of panthenol, seven collagen forms, three signalling peptides, adenosine and the four Centella triterpenes, a finished product that made its argument on the skin, and early product-specific testing at a third-party institute. The Inspectorate stops at One Star because the evidence surrounding the finished product has not yet reached the scale, independence and maturity that higher recognition requires. The first Star recognises the formulation that exists. The next requires evidence that does not yet."
What earns the recognition is not one ingredient. PDRN is the centre of the formulation, stated at twenty thousand parts per million and bought as a raw material of ninety nine percent purity, and the brand did not build a one-note cream around it. Hydration and barrier, soothing, signalling and structure are each addressed by a distinct layer of the deck, in a vehicle built on polyglyceryl emulsifiers rather than PEGs. The finished cream made its case on the skin before it made it on paper, and two institute tests with published enrolment, dates and effect sizes stand behind it, which is more than most of the category carries. What holds the file at One Star is the maturity of that evidence rather than its direction: twenty two women, one institute, no comparator, no publication, no replication by anyone without an interest, and a label whose ordering has not yet been reconciled with the stated concentration by an assay. “A declaration before anything else. The founder of The Bio Star also founded the company that imports this cream into the United States. That relationship was disclosed at the opening of the file, the importer was excluded as a source, and the Inspectorate was instructed to apply more scrutiny here than anywhere else in the volume. It did. The Star below was awarded by founder's ruling, and the computed number is printed beside it.
“Now the cream. Some formulations impress first on paper. PYDERIN made its argument on the skin. The inspection record is plain about it: by the following morning, after a single evening application, surface hydration, softness and apparent smoothness had changed to a degree that is unusual for one application of a topical cream, and the effect was consistent across the period of use. That is an observation on one face, made by an inspector who declared an interest, and it is recorded as exactly that. It is not a clinical finding and this file does not treat it as one. It is also not nothing, because The Bio Star inspects finished products, and the finished product is where this one starts.
“Skincare is crowded with formulas designed to be explained. PYDERIN was unusual because the explanation came second. The first argument was the cream itself, and only afterwards does the ingredient deck account for it.
“The deck is worth reading closely, because it is an architecture rather than a list. At the centre is PDRN, a fraction of DNA fragments with a genuine published biology in injected and wound-healing medicine, present here as Sodium DNA and stated by the brand at twenty thousand parts per million. Around it the brand has built four distinct layers. Hydration and barrier: panthenol, also stated at twenty thousand parts per million, in a lipid vehicle of caprylic triglyceride and polyglyceryl emulsifiers rather than PEGs. Soothing: the four purified Centella triterpenes, madecassoside, asiaticoside, madecassic acid and asiatic acid, together with dipotassium glycyrrhizate. Signalling: three peptides with separate published mechanisms, acetyl hexapeptide-8, copper tripeptide-1 and palmitoyl pentapeptide-4, alongside adenosine, which is Korea's notified wrinkle ingredient. Structure: seven collagen forms, from atelocollagen to collagen amino acids. Any one of those layers would carry an ordinary cream. PYDERIN used all four to surround one molecule.
“Three numbers sit on the front of the jar, and each deserves a sentence rather than a repetition.
“Twenty thousand parts per million is two percent by weight of the finished cream. The brand states both figures itself, and they are the same figure. It is a concentration of the finished product, and it is the figure the price attaches to.
“Ninety nine percent is not the cream. It is the purity of the raw material the PDRN was bought as, measured by the ratio of ultraviolet absorbance at two wavelengths, and the brand's own footnote says so. A pure raw material at two percent is a different statement from a two percent cream, and this file keeps them separate because the brand, to its credit, does too.
“Ninety seven kilodaltons is a size. It describes DNA fragments of roughly one hundred and fifty base pairs, which is the lower end of the range this class of material comes in, and the arithmetic checks. Smaller fragments are interesting in a topical because the barrier of the skin discriminates by size. That is as far as the statement goes. No measurement record for the figure is published, no study of passage through intact skin was located for a molecule of this class, and nothing in this file assumes that a cream behaves as an injection does. The restraint is deliberate.
“Then there is the testing, which is more than most of this category has.
“Two human tests were run at the Korea Institute of Dermatological Sciences in Seoul, a third-party institute holding a regulator designation for cosmetic inspection. Twenty two women aged forty two to sixty six used the cream in a test that ran from December 2024 into January 2025. Hydration of the stratum corneum, read to its tenth layer, was five hundred and forty two percent higher after a single application than before it. Wrinkle depth on skin replicas fell by between seventeen and thirty two percent at two weeks, the largest change at the nasolabial fold. A second group of twenty one women aged forty four to sixty five gained between three point six and four point two percent in elasticity across five sites, also at two weeks. A patch test returned zero irritation.
“Those are real numbers from a real institute, and they are recorded here with their enrolment and their dates because the brand published both. What the brand has not published is the instrument, the comparator, whether anyone was blinded, or the report itself. A hydration figure taken after applying a rich cream is a true measurement of a real effect, and it is also the kind of effect any well-built emollient produces. Without a vehicle arm, the test cannot say how much of the five hundred and forty two percent belongs to the PDRN and how much to the cream around it.
“One thing the label does that the Inspectorate must record. Korean labelling requires ingredients above one percent to be listed in descending order. Panthenol, stated at two percent, sits eighth. Sodium DNA, stated at two percent, sits twenty fourth, below the fragrance and below adenosine, which regulation caps at four hundredths of a percent. Those positions come from the brand's own list. The Inspectorate records them and draws no conclusion. One assay of the finished cream would close the question, and it is the first item on the list of open matters.
“So, the Star. One Bio Star, by founder's ruling. The anchors computed an institutional score of 3.00, held below Finalist by Efficacy at 2.14, and no score was moved to reach the award. The founder's commercial interest raised nothing in this file. What the ruling recognises is the formulation that exists: a serious molecule at a serious concentration, surrounded by a system that most brands in this category never bother to build, in a cream that made its case on the skin before it made it on paper.
“What it stops short of is equally clear. Two Bio Stars requires evidence about this exact cream that is larger than twenty two women, run by someone with nothing to gain from the answer, published in full, and controlled against the same cream without its active. None of that exists yet. None of it is a criticism of what is in the jar.
“The first Star recognises the formulation that exists. The next requires evidence that does not yet.”
